Pushkar Lake

Pushkar is a small town located at a distance of 11 km from Ajmer in Rajasthan. It is famous all over the country as the most important pilgrimage visited by people all round the year. The Pushkar lake and the Brahma temple are the major attractions here.

The sacred Pushkar Lake is said to have been created by the falling of lotus from the hand of Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. It is believed to be as old as the creation. Pushkar Mela

Pushkar Mela is held in Pushkar town, 11 km from Ajmer in Rajasthan. This happens for Pushkar Melatwelve days annually and the cultural and trade cum religious fair is an attractive and lively to watch. This is with the spectacle of Rajasthani men and women who adorn their colorful traditional attire. You can see here the saffron-robed and ash smeared Sadhus who are the holy men. Apart from that, there are thousands of bulls, cows, sheep, goats, horses and camels. These animals are richly decorated saddles and it is the largest cattle fair in the world. This fair attracts more than one lakh people. This fairs not only attracts people from Rajasthan but also people and tourists from different parts of India and abroad.

There is trading of cattle. There are also camel races which happen there. Apart from that, there are dazzling displays of bangles, brassware, clothes, camel saddles and halters and all these things add up to make the fair colorful and attractive. There are necklaces of glass beads from Naguar, pottery, printed textiles from Jodhpur and Ajmer and all these items are sold in the mela for sale. There are people who include farmers, cattle traders and breeders. These people buy and sell their animals, leather whips, saddles etc. apart from that, if you wish to have a same ride, you can do that ere during the mela.

Pushkar Camel MelaThis fair happens to come along with some other religious celebration. Pushkar is among the five main places of pilgrimage which is specified in Hindu scriptures. Pushkar has a lot of temples. These includes one of the only two temples dedicated to Lord Brahma in India and there are hundreds of thousands of devotees who take a ritual dip in the holy Pushkar Lake. This is on the day of the Kartik Purnima which is full moon night of the Kartika month. They also worship at the Brahma temple which is also known as the Jagat Pita Shri Brahma Mandir. There are pilgrims from all over India who come to Pushkar for this event during this holy time. Apart from that they also believe that all the 330 million Gods and Goddesses are present at Pushkar Lake during the occasion.

People also take part in the cultural and sporting events apart from spiritual rites. They pray to god and be spiritually active but they also take part if competitions and enjoy the fair. LOCATION
The small and beautiful town of Pushkar is set in a valley just about 14 km off Ajmer in the north Indian state of Rajasthan. By Train
The nearest railway station for Pushkar is Ajmer, which is on the Broad Gauge and hence connected to all the metro cities of India. There are daily trains from Delhi in morning (Shatabdhi Exp).

Savitri TempleSavitri Temple
The Savitri temple is dedicated to Goddess Savitri, the wife of Lord Brahma. Positioned on the Ratnagiri Hill, this temple holds a legend to itself. It is believed that once Lord Brahma had to perform a Yagna immediately. However, the performance of the Yagna required the presence of his wife. So, he married a local milkmaid, Gayatri for the purpose. When Brahma's wife, Savitri, found out, she cursed Lord Brahma that he would be worshipped only in Pushkar and only once a year. Then, she immolated herself at the Ratnagiri Hill, where the temple now stands.

Warah Temple
The Warah temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (preserver of the world). King Anaji Chauhan built this temple. The temple has an image of lord Vishnu in the incarnation of a wild boar. The legend has it that Lord Vishnu came took the form of a Warah (wild boar) to kill the demon Hirnayaksh.
